June 28 Re-run I have a friend who during her "staycation" commented on her Facebook that she got a sunburn. Hmmmm. I knew that I had mentioned something about
spending too much time in the sun on a earlier blog - so for those of you who did not see my July 29, 2008 blog - I am reposting again. Hope it helps, Kirsten.
Too much sun?Among the many wonderful benefits of lavender essential oil, lavender can be beneficial to treating sunburned skin. The flower company offers essential oil of lavender "bath blooms" filled with sweet almond oil ready to be used in the tub. Check out our bath blooms in our product section. Always use lukewarm bath water when you have sunburned skin (too hot water and sunburned skin= not a good thing).
you can also try this:
Fill your tub with lukewarm water, mix together 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil and several drops (5 or 6) of camomile essential oil (both of these items you can purchase at your local health food super store) repeat every few hours until the burning subsides.
Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. If the sunburn is severe, there is blistering and fever, always seek medical attention. I certainly wish I had these remedies available to me all those years ago when I baked like a chicken on a spit at the beach every summer! Oh, if only I knew now what I did not know then...
Let us know if these suggestions worked for you. Remember, always re-apply sunscreen after swimming, or long periods in the sun. Enjoy your summer!

April 19 A good day.Woke up to a gorgeous blue sky. Had to drive extraordinary son across Tucson for an interview at the Desert Museum. We were early, did not think about the fact that there woudl be minimal traffic at 8:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. We decided to spend the little time we had hanging out on the museum grounds for a bit until it was time for his appointment. First place, the Humminbird enclosure. But, on the way to see the Hummingbirds, something caught my eye, a very strange, yet colorful larg bug crawling around. I had never seen a blue-ish green bug with bright orange wings before. I watched him for a while crawling all over then ducking into a hole only to come out again and keep on going. She was looking for something. I had to know what kind of bug this was. I just had to ask. It was a Tarantula Wasp. This exciting creature hunts tarantulas. It stings them rendering them unable to move but remain alive. They then move the tarantula to a hole either of its own making or the tarantula's old home and lays one egg on the spider. The larva then uses the still alive spider as food, saving the vital organs for last. So, hmmm. I learned something new today.
I did eventually get to visit the hummingbirds. They are nesting at the moment. Something I have never seen. They make the tiniest round nests (sort of resemble the shape of the walnut shell boats we made as kids. I could have watched the beautiful birds all day just sitting as still and quiet on their little eggs. Something I have never seen before - a hummingbird staying still. And for you 5 official readers, I figured out how to put up the link to facebook so If you wondering what else I spend my time on. Its on the right side. Just click and you will be transported right over. Pretty neat.
I'll see you at one of these places I am sure.
Have a great Sunday. Keep looking around, you never know what beautiful things may be just under your feet or right at eye level.

April 15 My bucket list
These were class 3 rapids and they were quite exciting to experience. I will say that I did have to spend the next day resting from my sore muscles. All said, a great experience. I might just have to do this one again.

January 28 Checking in Has it been so long since I have been to my own blog? Boy, time does fly. An update: The soap is curing nicely although the citrus batch is a blend of top notes so the smell, while nice, is subtle and not as strong as the lavendar batch I just finished. Sunday, extraordinary son and I made this batch of vegetable oil based soap and not too many things went terribly wrong... the hand mixer broke off in my hands while I was stirring, I dropped the thermometer into my oils, and for me, that is a pretty good day. 18 hours later I had a gorgeous batch of soap but could not get the soap out of the molds to save my life. There I was at 6 in the morning, outside , in the dark, with my bathrobe and Ugg boots on, (it was quite chilly!) banging my molds on the concrete to get them out. Finally, after breaking the lids off two of my mold boxes (great old cigar boxes that worked perfectly for my small batches) the soap came out. I am a stubborn one when it comes to seeing something through. That soap was coming out and after nearly losing my patience. It did. Ha!
I have some great candles coming and I hope to get a few more batches of soap made. Its a great feeling making something out of natural ingredients that are terrific for your body and great for the spirit. Keep checking back, I may not be updating the blog as much as I'd like to but I am always here.
More later,
